Indiana Twins Park: The New Complex and How It All Started

THE BEGINNING

In August of 2011 the Indiana Twins were formed.  Our founder, Jason Clymore, originally wanted to name the organization after one of his favorite teams but realized another team had already taken the name.  With a set of 2 year old twins, Jason found it fitting to name the organization the Indiana Twins!

After a brief stint at Extra Innings Indy South, the Twins found a new home near the University of Indianapolis campus.

The Twins signed a lease for 3 years and built up what eventually looked like the above picture.  There were a few different face lifts but this was what the facility looked like in our last year there.

This facility was 7,000 square feet with 4 tunnels as well as a 1,000 square foot space outside of that for a workout and training area.  We also had a part of the housing building on the lot as well for team meetings, training, education and more.

Over the years there we hosted many clinics and camps including the likes of Ron Wolforth, Founder and CEO of Texas Baseball Ranch, and Justin Stone, Biokinematic Hitting Consultant for the Chicago Cubs and President of Elite Baseball Training in Chicago, IL.

We have a lot of good memories from the old facility, but knew it was a matter of time before we’d end up somewhere else.  With more teams and cars to park than we had space for, we spent a few years looking for a new location.

The owners of the old facility ended up selling the place which fast forwarded our efforts and we were fortunate to land a new location about a half hour southwest of the old facility.

We discovered the new location in September of 2017 when our Founder, Jason, and his long time right hand man John Reel were meeting at a player’s birthday party to then go check out the place.  That next summer we came to an agreement.

THE NEW COMPLEX

Our new home, Indiana Twins Park, is located of SR 67, north of Martinsville, IN.  Included at the park is our renovated hitting facility, brand new pitching facility, and three diamonds under renovation.

The current hitting facility is 9,000 square feet with six 12’ x 55’ tunnels.  It includes a large upstairs player’s clubhouse area where teams can have classroom sessions, team meetings, ping pong and air hockey competitions and tables to do homework.  Within the walls of the building is also a private conference room for team mental training sessions and private meetings with players, parents or coaches.  Upstairs we have a parent area that overlooks the tunnels.  Inside is also a 2,000 square foot performance training area that is separate from the main tunnels.

Our brand new pitching facility is approximately 6,000 square feet.  There are two completely enclosed/caged tunnels measuring 15’ x 77’ as well as a partially enclosed third tunnel that is about 12’ x 77’.  Each of the tunnels can be partitioned off, giving the option for smaller drill work stations.  There’s also another additional 700 square feet that we use for warm-ups, stretching, plyocare ball and med ball work, as well as more drill space.

Hitting Facility updates will include:

  • Twins Wall/Hall of Fame area in the entry way
  • A private coaches office area
  • A remodeled concession area (Complete)
  • Remodeled restrooms (Complete)

Field updates will include:

  • 3 fields with skinned infields that can be used for 8u through 13u practices, games and Twins Camp sessions.
  • Outfield fences will be approximately 300′
  • Temporary fences can be setup for 200′
  • All new fencing for backstops and dugouts and perimeter
  • New dugouts
  • New scoreboards
  • Working lights on all 3 fields
  • Infields will get elevation corrected, infields stripped and new conditioner added
  • A Home Run deck in RF of Field 1 will provide awesome viewing for parents and large cover for concession area below (Completed)

We are extremely proud of the work that has been completed to this point and more than excited to see the complex in full swing as we begin to host tournaments and continue to grow the Indiana Twins!
